Continuing on the same cursed path the journey that started with “Possessed By a Malignant Lust“, the French band Noirsuaire has released on 15th of December another short EP, “By The Screams Of Porphyric Seraphs“.
In the interview I did recently with the band , N revealed that this EP contains some tracks that initially were supposed to appear on the “Black Flame..” compilation, but he decided to self release them instead as a limited edition tape (50 copies in total, 25 on red tape and 25 on black tape). These 2 songs must be somehow considered as an introduction to the band’s first full length record, which is currently under work.
The tracks featured on this tape are quite short, (together they run a bit over 7 minutes) but compensate with aggression and intensity. The music is fast, with plenty of sharp riffs and well crafted blast beats, while the vocals are raspy and ferocious. Same as on the band’s previous releases, Noirsuaire successfully recreates on this EP that feeling of nostalgia many (listeners and musicians alike) seem to look for in today’s black metal. The songs have a strong aura of mysticism and sorrowful darkness about them which makes them the perfect soundtrack for dark and foggy winter days.
Production wise, the music on this demo is quite raw, but that fits perfectly with the band’s view on how black metal should sound. While some consider it “primitive” by the standards of today’s plastic black metal, here at Scrolls we are happy when bands like Noirsuaire are not afraid to sound raw and unpolished. After all let’s not forget that black metal demos have always been meant to have a crude and murky sound. If some delicate ears cannot digest that, there’s plenty of top notch releases to choose from out there.
Black metal means escapism and real darkness and Noirsuaire knows that very well. The cold and grim music N has written takes you in a dark and melancholic place, very far away from all the plastic world that you drown into every fucking day. Just press “play” and close your eyes. It’s getting colder…
