On the 11th of March I attended on the A38 Ship in Budapest one of the most interesting live events ever organized by Goetia Productions and Planetnoir Industries.
Lukas Häger (Reveal!, End All Parties ) opened the evening with his solo performance which left me in total owe. This man is a pure guitar wizard, with incredible skills. His music is much better and captivating in a live setting. It was a total pleasure watching him perform songs from his solo album “Folkmord I Ting“, including “Alpinblod“, one of my favorites from this LP. His music contains a mixture of classical music, flamenco, delta blues and country, all mixed in an original and inspired way. Check him out, this guy’s fantastic.
PÅGÅ – Well, it’s not everyday one has the opportunity to see them live, so for me this was a no miss. 10 years after seeing In Solitude live, now I could witness another side of the Åhman brothers (Pelle and Gottfried), which I was not too familiar with. I wanted to indulge myself in its mysteries and honestly I was not disappointed at all. Their performance was dark, disturbing, sometimes dreamy, sometimes frightening. Through their sounds they invoke and evoke a wide range of feelings and emotions which in the end leave you drained and confused, questioning your existence. Excellent performance, so glad I could see them and could close the circle 10 years after.
WHALESONG – Interesting band to see live, mixing several styles, from urban post rock to doom metal and maybe a bit of industrial/drone metal. Their music has a hypnotic vibe attached to it, with long songs, intricate rhythm changes and effects. Elise’s voice adds an ethereal/exotic vibe to the music, while the guitars and the rhythm section bring in the heaviness. The guys are excellent musicians, no doubt about it. Not my type of metal, but I am glad I saw them and I enjoyed their performance very much.
Not too many people came to this event, but that made it even more interesting and somehow intimate. For me it was a very different experience, out of my usual comfort zone, but it opened my mind and added new paths to walk on.
