Holdlajtorja is a band which has recently come out from the ever surprising Hungarian underground. On 17th of December they have released their debut demo, digitally, via the Bandcamp page. “Ab Oriente Ad Occidente” is a 3 track demo, with a duration of almost 10 minutes and contains 2 full tracks and one interlude. Even though this is a very short material, the quality of the songs is top class. The music is quite original and it puts you in a certain atmosphere right from the very beginning.
The tempo is not very fast but it compensates with a mystical, almost oriental atmosphere created by the guitars and the subtle keyboards. The vocals on the 2 full songs are guttural, in an almost death metal style, while the interlude “Et Erat Subter” sounds more like a pagan invocation, with clean melodic voices and ritualistic drums.

I absolutely love it when bands like Holdlajtorja appear just out of the blue. It is pretty clear that the band is still working on its craft but “Ab Oriente Ad Occidente” made a first very good impression on me. I only hope this material will be released soon in a physical form as well, it really deserves it!
If you are into some obscure black/death metal with atmosphere and melody, then check out this demo and keep an eye on Holdlajtorja. You might be surprised.
