After 13 years of lying in wait, the Finnish band Black Beast has finally released its long awaited first full length album, “Nocturnal Bloodlust“.
The record came out on the 8th of November 2019 via Primitive Reaction Records and is the band’s first release after the split CD with their country mates Bloodhammer in 2003, brilliantly entitled “Unholy Finnish Union“.
So many years have passed since that record came out that many of you probably asked yourselves if this band was still alive anymore.
The answer is YES, they are very much alive and the full length that I am writing about here is perfect proof for that.
If you know the above mentioned split but haven’t listened to the new album yet, then do not assume the 2 releases sound the same. They are in fact quite different, especially when it comes to the vocal lines. Moreover, the music on “Nocturnal Bloodlust” is catchier and even better produced than what the band released in 2006. The only thing in common is that filthy, punkish element Black Beast has had since the beginning, especially on the old “Hellfire Sacrifice” track.

With a total time of 33 minutes, the 8 songs (plus an intro) on this new release are a fierce mix of raw black metal, with some catchy punk/thrash influences here and there (e.g. “Fist of the Devil“).
“Fist of the Devil
Darkness and Evil”
Do not expect party music here, as the album is very much inspired by the primitive sound of the first wave of Scandinavian black metal. On certain tracks (e.g. “Black Seremony” or the majestic “Symbol for My Devotion“) we can also hear some well inserted keyboards which enhance the overall Satanic atmosphere already present on the record.
Sharp edged riffs with melodic guitar solos, frenzied blast beats with some groovy drum parts and coarse vocals that SCREEEEAAAAMMM the words of Satan, these are the secret ingredients Black Beast has thrown in the mix to spellbound its listeners. And I can assure you that from the very first track, the melodic heavy metal like intro “Prelude“, you’ll be taken on a musical journey you will not regret.
Even if the album came out in 2019, this is not modern bullshit metal at all, made to please the “fans” or cash in on the comeback. What I really like about this album is that even if it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, it still has that fragrance of true black metal, just like some old bands used to have in the past.

The music, the album cover and the musicians’ names are true to the fucking legacy of early Bathory, Beherit and other bands whose music and influence is still worshiped today. “Nocturnal Bloodlust” reeks of dedication to the craft and the black flame still burns strong in the heart of the Black Beast. And this is how I like black metal to be and stay: malefic, Satanic and true.
I really hope that we will not have to wait another 13 years for Black Beast to release another album, but until then use and abuse “Nocturnal Bloodlust” at maximum volume, as I am sure it will become one of the kvlt albums in (Finnish) black metal.
Give me the fortune and power
Amen! Amen! Amen !”
